Number 10 Bath in 10 Steps

Don’t be intimidated by your new bathroom project. Follow our step-by-step guide to planning a classy bathroom.

The evolved bathroom was once usually a shed in the garden. But now, after the kitchen, the bathroom is probably the most important room in the house in terms of resale value. We now think of our bathrooms as rooms for relaxation and pampering.

Build your perfect bathroom by applying our versatile ideas

Besides simple renovations, we are planning suites. Whatever your reason, building a new bathroom is a serious undertaking and has several challenges. It usually requires quite a lot of fittings and technical skill in a very tight space. Therefore, careful planning from the beginning will prevent costly mistakes and changes in design.

1 Assess your bathroom needs

Start by working out your priorities. While an en-suite bathroom may require units such as a jacuzzi, shower cabin, sink, towels, and dirty clothes, a guest bathroom may only require a shower and toilet.

Next, ask yourself what kind of space you hope to achieve. Are you looking for a shelter to escape to or are you a more uplifting and energetic person? This will affect the fixtures, fittings and color scheme you choose.

2 Plan a bathroom layout

Replacing fittings, flooring and tiles, or repainting walls is a quick way to refresh. If your layout isn’t right, consider ways you can make small but effective changes. Replacing doors or installing sliding doors, for example, is an excellent way to save space.

Measure your bathroom carefully if you plan to change your layout. Note the location of the door windows and pipes. Outlines on graph paper or using an online design tool can help.

It’s also a good idea to visit a bathroom showroom and listen for advice to minimize costly mistakes.

Finally, remember how your needs may change in the coming years. You can expand your family or sell your house.

3 Get inspired

Choose the fittings to consider according to your style. Your choices are a trend, classic or contemporary look. Hotels, especially small boutique hotels, are a great source of design inspiration. Browse their website and you’ll probably find a few design tips.

Browse home design magazines. Try to put together a list of what appeals to you, whether it’s an East-Zen look or something inspired by Scandi Style.

Talk to your friends who have completed their new bathroom project, and listen to the misconceptions and problems they encountered throughout the process.

4 Be realistic about your field

Your bathroom is limited to available space. Of course we want a jacuzzi… Steaming… and all the other pampering equipment. But we have a space available!

Don’t block out large fixtures (it’ll just make the room feel smaller) Search for tubs, showers, and other products that best fit your size.

5 Remember ventilation is important

Many times people overlook the ventilation in their bathroom, but regret it later. In a furnished bathroom this is very important as condensation can damage the wood. A small window may be insufficient.

6 Storage factors

Stowage arrangement is the key to a successful bathroom. A minimal glass shelf will not be enough! Cabinets should be well designed and fitted according to bathroom dimensions. Of course, we do not want to see shampoo bottles, make-up materials and towels lying on the floor.

Mirror cabinets will allow you to store products, as well as charge toothbrushes and electric shavers. Stylish cabinets mounted on the walls will allow you to secretly store bottles.

7 Plan the lighting well

Since bathrooms are often placed next to the bedroom, lighting must be carefully considered. You don’t want bright lights flashing in the middle of the night. It is not comfortable for the person sleeping in the bedroom next door when going in and out of the bathroom.

We recommend that you consider having different light levels. If you’re going to the bathroom late at night, low-level lighting won’t wake others or yourself.

8 Tiles are the easiest way to follow trends

Surfaces make a bath a bath or not a bath. Choose trendy graphic ceramics. You get maximum effect from floor to wall without interruption. Before choosing your tiles, consider your bathroom dimensions. While highly decorative designs may not give the desired feeling of a small space, they can be an ideal way to add interest and warmth to a large bathroom.

9 Finalizing the budget

Deciding on a budget in advance means you can prioritize where to spend and where to save. And the good news is, you don’t have to pay a fortune to create a spa sensation.

Remember that you need to spend some money on practical items. If you’re planning a rain shower, you should be prepared for higher water bills.

10 Decide what level of service you need

Your expectations will determine your budget. Home Fix offers a turnkey solution with everything from planning, installation, decoration to the price.
